Parent – ELA: Read Aloud (4/1)

Teacher: Parent (

Hey 3rd Graders!

It was great seeing some of you at our Zoom meeting today! I can’t wait to hear your stories next time we meet.

If you’re looking for something fun to do in the meantime, check out this YouTube video. I choose this book Islandborn as a read-aloud because I know that Junot Díaz tells amazing stories that the readers can relate to. The author, Junot Díaz, has been a very important storyteller throughout my life.

Now, here’s what we can do:

  1. Click on the link
  2. Listen to the read-aloud of the book. (Grab your own copy of the book if you have it. If you don’t have the book, that’s OK, you can still look at the story through the video.)

When you’re finished with the read-aloud, try this activity:

Identify the main character Lola’s problem AND solution. Use evidence from the text to support your answers.

(Who is the main character?

(What did the character want?)

(What was the problem?)

(How did the character try and solve the problem?

I look forward to hearing all of your responses! If you would like feedback or just want to show me what you know, you can send me your thoughts via email or class DOJO.

With love and hugs!

Mrs. Parent
