Hi Friends!

Today, we will read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka .  As you listen, pay close attention to who is telling the story. Is a character telling the story (1st person) or narrator (3rd person)? Click on the link to hear the story. You can also hear it on the website Epic.

Response to Reading:

Who is telling the story? How do you know?

(_____________ is telling the story. I know this because_____________)

Alright problem solvers, here is our word/story problem for today.  Write a subtraction sentence and draw a math picture to show how you solved each problem.  Try drawing tens and units for your math picture.

(1) There are 24 candies in the box. Jason eats 8 candies. How many candies are left in the box?

(2) Challenge : There are 89 people drinking soda at a party. There are 56 people drinking juice.  How many MORE people are drinking soda? (Hint: Draw a number bond to figure out what you know.)
