Every year, on April 22nd, people celebrate Earth Day. Although it was yesterday, let’s have some fun and learn about this special day. Our read aloud for today is called, Celebrating Earth Day by M. J. York. As you read the story pay close attention to the photographs. Great readers learn more about a topic through the text AND pictures.  When you finish reading, answer the question below and then use Lexia.

This week we will solve a few more subtraction stories/ word problems. Don’t forget to draw a math picture and write an equation to show your thinking. 

  1. Kim recycled 27 sheets of paper. Her friend Daniel recycled 13 sheets fewer. How many sheets of paper did Daniel recycle? 
  2. Challenge: Meg and Josh are making cupcakes for an Earth Day bake sale. They need to make 94 cupcakes but only have 25 done. How many more cupcakes do they need to make?
