McAndrew – ELA – Week of 3/30

Teacher: McAndrew (amcandrew@hps.holyoke.ma.us)

Assignment:

Hello 4th grade Families!

Your  child’s work for the week is posted on Google Classroom. In summary, they have three assignments…

  1. Genius Hour: Week 2- Genius Hour is an opportunity for students to study and create whatever they want! Please help your child brainstorm things they are interested in if they are stuck. Once they choose a topic, I will be sending texts and videos their way to help get them get started.
  2. Digital Writer’s Notebooks- I have made a digital notebook for each student. This week, they should decorate their cover, complete their Heart Map, and begin writing!
  3. “If I were a dog…” is a read and respond assignment in which students read about the history of dogs, then write their own story from the perspective of a dog or wolf.

Please have your child read for at least 30 minutes and write for at least 30 minutes everyday! Attached you will find a Book Bingo chart, a list of free online libraries, and an April Writing Calendar. Please encourage creativity and allow students to write what they choose, but use the calendar if they are stuck. Since our Book Bingo rewards at school are being postponed, you may consider adding incentives at home. For example, you might decide that after your child reads 5 books and gets a bingo, they will earn a later bedtime for a week or more video game time.

Please contact me via ClassTag, my cell phone, or email with any questions, comments, or concerns.

🙂 Ms. McAndrew
