Assignment:

Hello Artists!

Tony DiTerlizzi, a famous author and illustrator who lives in Amherst, is doing some live drawing sessions on facebook.  I have included the link to his facebook page, which has all the info.  He is amazing, and his sessions are entertaining and very informative.  He is taking drawing requests during tomorrows live session.  I would love for you to draw along with him and share the results with me!  Here is some info about him:

“#1 New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi has been creating children’s books for twenty years. From fanciful picture books like The Broken Ornament and The Spider & The Fly (a Caldecott Honor book), to chapter books like Kenny and The Dragon and the WondLa trilogy, DiTerlizzi imbues his stories with a rich imagination. With Holly Black, he created the middle-grade series, The Spiderwick Chronicles, which has sold over 20 million copies, been adapted into a feature film, and has been translated in over thirty countries. He teamed up with Lucasfilm to retell the original Star Wars trilogy as a picture book and his collaboration with celebrated author Mo Willems created the bestselling The Story of Diva & Flea. The Norman Rockwell museum’s traveling retrospective of DiTerlizzi’s artwork, “Never Abandon Imagination”, broke attendance records. He has been featured in Time magazine, USA Today, CNN, PBS, NPR the BBC and The Today Show.”

What I would like you to do is create your own fantasy character.  Its open ended, and you can base it on a land creature, flying creature or ocean creature.  If you can access Tony DiTerlizzis live drawing session, that would be a great resource.  If not you can look at his work, or any other artists fantasy creatures to gain inspiration.  His website is:

And here is the link to his facebook page:

We're moving my time to 3pm EST and we're taking live drawing requests today. I hope you'll join us.
